Dextromethorphan is a hydrobromide salt form of dextromethorphan. Dextromethorphan is a synthetic methylated dextrorotatory analog associated with codeine and non-opioid derivatives of morphine. Dextromethorphan has antitussive activity and no analgesic or addictive properties. The drug crosses the blood-brain barrier and activates the sigma opioid receptor in the central nervous system cough center, thereby suppressing cough reflexes.
