Abstrakt

RU-58841 (also known as PSK-3841 or HMR-3841) is a non-steroidal antiandrogen which was previously investigated for use as a topical treatment for acne, Androgenetische Alopezie, and hirsutism.The compound is similar in structure to RU-58642 but contains a different side-chain. RU 58841 is a specific androgen receptor antagonist or anti-androgen used as a topical treatment for acne, androgenetic alopecia and hirsutism. RU 58841 displays high affinity for the hamster prostate and flank organ (F.O.) androgen receptors. Vergeblich, when topically applied, it exerts a potent dose-dependent regression of F.O. area at a dose as low as 1 microgram/animal while being devoid of antiandrogenic activity on deep accessory sex organs and of any effect on testosterone level up to 100 micrograms/animal. RU58841 works by binding to the androgen receptor in the hair follicle. Therefore androgens don’t have the chance to bind and start the chain reaction of androgenetic alopecia and begin the so called miniaturization process. Topical RU58841 has a very short half-life (1 hr) in comparison to the oral ingestion of Finasteride (6 Std) and Dutasteride (5 Wochen!).
